SOTU: Democrats have nothing to lose

Posted: Tuesday, January 23, 2007 10:38 PM by Hardball

Democrats and President Bush abandon the Republican Radicals - Can Triangulation be a good thing?

Democrats want to show this country they can lead and Chris Matthews just hit the nail right on the head.  There ARE issues on which Democrats may agree with the president  while members of his own party will remain staunchly opposed to action.  Democrats should go for it.  On Immigration, on Healthcare, on Education and on Energy.

Democrats have nothing to lose by trying to find common ground while keeping firm to their core values.  The president has no ability to really LEAD on these issues.  But he can help the process and sign the bills into law.

If Democrats want their base to be happy, they will stand firm and help bring an end to the war in Iraq while they work with the president on the issues he raised tonight and cannot possibly achieve on his own ...but neither can they achieve them without him.

Why does this moron insist on connecting 911 to Iraq? He brought us into this war and now he can't get us out. He never finished Afghanistan and started a war that was not necessary. Also, it's time to stop using the phrase 'WAR ON TERROR". JIM WEBB SAID IT ALL!!
Can we get New Orleans to become a suburb of Bagdad? Then we may get Electricity and Water in parts of the City!
I disagree. The Dems have everything to lose if they follow George Bush. Bush has failed big time. The Dems need to step up and take the lead. Forget Bush. I don't see a lot of compatibility between Dems and Bush.
hillary dooooozen --- earth to hill!!!!
Is the Democrats can successfully pass legislation on health care, environmental concerns, and education, how will these things be funded when Bush is spending how much each day in Iraq?
dont think this is on point..but why were folks so flipped out aboat the president saying democrat, not democratic majority..here in tenn., we old line democrats often call the party..the democrat party..ask al gore or harold ford.
I was very afraid of the ties Bush tried to draw between Taliban and Al queda by saying they will moove to Iraq if we "leave" AND then making the Shia enimies, (ala axis of evil) and making thier supposed ties to Iran a focus of military force. None of this is true - are we headed for more war with more countries? Was this a subbtle hint? Ia this WHY he wants more people in the military? How about the civilian corps - does that mean more people get pulled out of their lively hoods and placed in harms way with little to provide for their families to "get involved in this war"!
Finding the "middle" these days is no small feat. I would say that we all have a lot to lose. What one party may or may not lose is secondary to what is in everyone's best interests.
Domestic issues are very important. Yet, as the point was made, the Iraq war needs to be dealt with. What about legislating funding for the troops to come home based on the recommendations by the Baker/Hamilton Iraqi study?
To Bill Young in Knoxville. The reason Democrats are "flipped out" about President Bush's choice to use Democrat Party instead of Democratic Party is that it is used as a supposed putdown, it is a silly thing, and very much annoys Democrats. According to MSNBC the handouts to people containing the speech had DemocratIC Party, but Bush could not swallow that and hence he made do with the old party line of Democrat Party (is that even grammatical??). THAT is why, when Bush said "I congratulate the Democrat Majority ..." there was not a lot of applause on either side. One, because the Republicans were not of course happy with the new majority, and two, from the DemocratIC side, it was churlish, childish and typical of Republicans.
We're being invaded and intimidated by Mexico's military and first responders to the tune of 216 incidents in the past ten years as Bushco signs the SPP and cries for "comprehensive immigration reform". My country is FAR TOO CROWDED as it is. I oppose ALL immigration, especially if it upsets the current ethnicity. We've seen employers use these illegals to hammer wages,so much for the lame "everybody deserves to earn a living" scam. Yet we seem to be more worried about moonbat democrat(ic) agendas and so on. I thought we had elected a conservative, hmm.
Tina and Wayne good statements Bush can't give a speech without saying 9/11 if he didn't have 9/11 he would be lost. Seems the Dems want to try and help the people of our country but the Republicans want to keep the money for themselves. So what if we have to pay higher taxes, if it helps less fortunate people than me I am for it, look where we live. I do wish this government of ours would be more concerned with helping the citizens of America than other countries. Someone please tell me who is paying for the WAR CHEST?
Hillary, your comments make sense. As Bill Clinton worked with the Republican Congress to get legislation through, the Democrats need to do the same with President Bush. After all the future of our country is one the line. I think we've all had enough of the partisan politics.
It can at times get toilsome to sort the valuable website visitors text from the inadequate.
