SOTU: What's Pelosi so mad about?

Posted: Tuesday, January 23, 2007 10:42 PM by Hardball

By Tucker Carlson

What’s Nancy Pelosi so mad about? You think she’d be in a pretty good mood, sitting in the speaker’s chair, listening as the president sucks up to her. But for much of the night, she’s looked grouchy, like she’d just informed a class full of kindergartners that, no, they may not be excused to use the bathroom. Maybe grumpiness is just her default emotion. Maybe that’s how she got to be speaker in the first place. Memo to the Democratic caucus: Find someone else to do PR.

There are many more important issued to discuss than how nancy Pelosi looks. That part of the problem, looks not substance. Most of the time Bush looks like a dear caught in the headlights of an oncoming car but so what. SUBSTANCE
tucker, i guess i am it for a response --- stick to dancing--- ohhhhh you tried that --- talk about something we give a shot about.
Gee, maybe she's a bit miffed because it took him six years to finally acknowledge domestic issues and global warming. It all seems a bit forced. Do you think he would have if the repubs had maintained control in the last election? I think the fact that she managed not to roll her eyes was an amazing show of restraint.
I guess you weren't looking at the Vice President.
My name's also Carlson, I do PR, I live in Hawaii with a high-speed connection, and I'm here for Nancy. Bring it/her on!
What about Dick Cheney virtually chuckling every time the President mentioned energy efficiency. Not to mention his chewing something through the whole speech!~
Come on, Tucker. What can the Democrats do to make you stop with your little boy pout? Should we have a pity party for you and your "lost boy" Republicans?
Or it might be the company she was with.
Aw, come on? It looked no worse than the grumpy Denny Hastert sitting back there....he always seemed like a hungry hibernating bear woken up a month too soon....
C'mon Tucker, that's ridiculous. She just had to sit through a one hour speech of the same old, same old, that shows the President doesn't know from Shinola. Any more allusions to 9/11? How about unsubstantiated fear mongering about Iran. Deja vu all over again. I'd be chewing on my lip to keep from screaming LIAR too.
I guess that is probably central to why she is not delivering the DR. I was not too bothered by her facial expressions (though she had 10 blinks on the VP). While microscoping those in back, did anyone spy the VP controlling his laughter during the oil strategy portion? Just as the President said "reduce gasoline consumption by 20%..." we see the VP looking over at someone and a visible smirk comes to his face (which read to me as "yeah, we'll see about that"). Not sure what to think about that (well, maybe I do).
Tucker, Get off Pelosi. I saw scowls throughout both parties, as well as Cheney. But what I see is a couple carrots on a stick, to the lead up to his Iraq same coarse. I don't think many are really impressed.
Perhaps she was mad because she was forced to sit next to an amoral liar and war criminal (Cheney).

Maybe (for a change) there is someone sitting in that chair who doesn't feel the need for the moronic, obligatory, ever present, -hit eating grin!!
Nancy Pelosi expressed my sentiments exactly. Restraint while listening to malarky, from a myopic stubborn lunatic.
I agree with Erin. Dick Cheney has had a scowl on his face since 2000 - even when he chuckles - yet I doubt you've ever commented on his grouchiness. Memo to Tucker: try to be more objective.
You know, I like Nancy but her cud chewing *was* a little distracting...
Ten years from now it will be too late for any cause towards the global warming crisis, but yeah we'll only be using 80% of the gas we do now. Big changes, yeah right.
Tucker: I didn't see those traits about Nancy Pelosie llooking grumpy. Your remarks sound onesided. Yeh, keep on dancing. Give the woman a chance for heavens sake. That's why thru the media that so many people are negative about everything.
Tucker, it figures that you would say that Pelosi looks mad. You would never have brought this subject up if a man was sitting in that chair.
Tucker--Get over your problems with teachers in your early childhood and focus on serious issues. You have a forum. Use it.
I saw Cheeny laughing too when Bush mentioned alternative energy. I thought he was taking medicine. Pelosi did a good job.
On the other hand (as any good economist would say) Vice President Cheney at one point evidenced one of the nicest smiles, albeit with pursed lips, that I have seen emanate from him. It was during a totally neutral moment in the speech and the only thing I could imagine was that he suddenly was saying to himself "Hey, I think I am going to enjoy wrestling with Nancy Pelosi a lot more than with Dennis Hastert!" Maybe Nancy was picking up on this vibe.
Has it gotten so bad that you have to attack the outfit the Madame Speaker is wearing?
I think it started right at the beginning, when the Pres. referred to the Democratic Party as the Democrat Party. To some, that is considered an insult.
imo... dem's and well.. most of the repub's are tapping their feet under the table..waiting for this to be over...then new game on the table..jmo
You'd look fairly displeased/bored/grumpy yourself if, like many of us, you found yourself sitting through yet another repetition of Bush's first five State of the Union con gam-- er, I mean, State of the Union speeches.
Webb captivated me in a way the president failed to. His speech dropped my heart to my shoes. To evoke history working for the good of the people, the good of the PEOPLE WHO ARE OUR TROOPS, the toll on our American psych and deficits threatening boomers - with real solutions and hope deeply moved me.
I don't know what she is mad about, but she might be mad about the fact that Katrina didn't get one mention. Apparently a black guy has to either be the best shot blocker in NBA history or literally jump in front of a train to get some notice from the President.
I think it was because her eyelashes wouldn't behave. It must be some kind of hazing ritual because Bush did the same thing in 2000. I agree with Michael Carr about Cheeny and the oil thing. He laughed like it was an inside joke. Oh, it was.
Did you notice Nancy and her insipid playing with the food in her teeth? Could she not have been any less interested in the speech? Perhaps she was worried about her appointment with her facialist, Tracie Martyn.
Has her daughter not taken any interest in the Fashionistia Aspect of the State of the Union Address? Come on, her daughter is probably not happy that Mommy Dearest is better looking than Daughter Dearest
Madame Speaker was listening to the SOTU. What expression do you have on your face when you are listening to a speech? Get real Tucker!
Any body feel like singing kum bye ah with his closing comments?
She was noticably reading along with the speech ,so i think you are confusing a scowl for a squinty reading face.
Hmmm, I must have accidentally stumbled on the E! gossip blog: - Pelosi looks mad - Those pesky Presidential autograph seekers - Look, Look! John McCain was sleeping! - etc, etc
Who gives a hoot about peoples facial expressions...Those will always be come what cringed when this man speaks the same o, same o.
Well, I would be grumpy too if I was sitting next to Cheney, who looked constipated as usual & forced to listen to pandering from a man who has a history of blowing smoke up our collective ar$e. Cheney's only change in emotion was the above cited chuckles at the apparent inside joke that the Prez give's any care to our global climate and energy crisis. It was one big joke, and sadly it is on us.
What is "she so mad about?" Where have you been the last six years? Anyone with a brain in their head, has a lot to be "mad about". I watched her as well and thought she was very deliberate in her applause and ovation. She appeared confident, respectful but showed no obligation to stand or applaud 61 times as some did. So far, she's "doin' a heck of a job".
Well geez, Tucker - maybe Nancy had to watch over the Republican side of the aisle so the American people could be reasonably assured that the House pages will be safe.
We expected that Nancy would treat Bush badly. I can see her taking full control of the house. Making sure Bush's agenda doesn't go through. We need to remove the troops from Iraq, right away.
Shame on you, Tucker. What say you about McCain sleeping during this speech?
Can you imagine the excitement and pressure on her being the first woman to sit as Madam Speaker - I am sure she was going through a lot of emotions. She did a great job. Tucker - looking scowl sometimes is a thinking emotion - LOOK at Cheney - what other way can you describe his look?
I'd love to know who at NBC made the conservative-pandering decision to hire this guy. Did Research predict he'd bring some kind of following? I'm all for hearing from the right, but couldn't we hear someone who has something to say?
I think the crack about the cost of the Speakers " outfit" was sexist. Mike Barnacle should apologize.
Well the good news is, I really don't have to comment further. Everyone else has
Tucker, you're a real trip! You waste a paragraph on Pelosi's demeanor and then you state that Kucinich is a Democrat and VEGAN? from Ohio! On both comments, no one gives a shit, but I'm curious why you didn't mention Bush, Prez of the US and a CARNIVORE!
Tucker, Pelosi didn't look mad at all. What are you talking about. She looked fine in comparison to Cheney who looked bored and constipated.
You are smart, but not intelligent. How did get that job?
