Senator Pryor: Gonzales lied to me

Posted: Tuesday, March 20, 2007 6:14 PM by Hardball

Sen. Mark Pryor, D-Ark., said that U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' resignation would be "the best thing for the Justice Department and the best thing for the administration."

Pryor's said Gonzales lied to him during a telphone conversation.

"There's no real polite way to say it other than he lied to me."

WATCH VIDEO:

Pryor also said that Karl Rove should testify under oath, and that the 3,00 e-mails released by the White House wasn't enough.  To read some of those emails, click here.

The issue is not what was predictable some years ago, but what is predictable NOW! What is the near term in Iraq and what is the intermediate and long term in the Middle East and for us in the world. Is it possible to reverse gravity as we plummet in world leadership, economics, values and principles and credibility? What do you predict for our future? I just saw the movie Premonition and I have one: that is America becoming a third class country within the next decade, riots in our own streets in two decades, a sudden but belated awareness to the ravages of global warming in three decades, overcome by illegal aliens within this decade, and the possible impeachment of Bush Cheney in the next year.
So we have a president, Bill Clinton, who was compelled to testify under oath in a sex case. But we have two members of bush administration, one who is no longer a federal employee, she retired 31 January 2007. And the president says they don't have to testify because of execute privledge. That I don't understand... Bush today showed that he is only a bully that for six years had his republican congress to rubber stamp his every action. Now that he has a new congress that wants him to follow the law, the little bully shows, that he is a bully and is throwing a temper tantrum. Wonder what he is going to do with the IMPEACHMENT COMES UP
Lies? Such actvity never goes on in the White House! Bush, Cheney, Rove never send ther minions to do evil's work. Ask Scooter Libby! Of utmost fright to this American is President Bush's attempt to monopolize all three branches of government. He had the legislature in his pocket until recently (the veto power is all he has left), Gonzales lies and eight hard working AUSA's are axed (ala Bloody Sunday) for their political views, and he constantly installs other politcos on the federal judiciary for life. His presidency will forever ruin the reputation of this country and harm generations to come. For God's sake, all he had to do was read one or two history books. Finally, Laura gets him to read something other than a pop-up book and he chooses Albert Camus', "The Stranger" (of course he misspronounced the authors name). Is existentialism rearing its' head here? Me thinks so. See you next time on Knuckleball.
Dear USA citizen, You have the president you have elected. For me, Mr.Bush has to be send into the museum. This guy took away all respect the western people have had for the USA. Today, for me the USA with Bush - goverment is a Banana -Republic Country Conform to your american saying - You got, whay you have payed. Peter
get them under oath, on film, so everyone can see if he or she is lying..You can probably tell by the body language. If he looks to the right, left, or down, he has to think about it, and will probably lie.
Thought I would forward my letter to Senator Leahy on the hearings on the U.S. attorneys. It reads: Senator Leahy: I am a concerned mother of two sons, both of which are draft age and attending college. I find myself swimming against the tide, trying to teach them to be honorable young men in the face of people in positions of power and authority openly skirting the truth. Please do not take testimony from Karl Rove or Harriet Mier without getting it on the record and under oath. Sadly, the days of taking a person at their word seem further and further from memory; especially in the political arena. The events of past and late do not give the current administration much creditability unfortunately. A chat with people who don't understand the notion of fundamental truth just isn't going to help us understand what really happened; especially on so many issues that we've all lost count. It would be pointless to take testimony for an investigation if it is not under oath. Personally, I find it odd that the President would not want to require people to take an oath so he can get to the bottom of it (i.e., unless he and his people want the flexibility to tell a different truth later). After all, the truth is timeless and requires no real conditions to tell it. It matters not what your political affiliations are; since we are all capable of telling the truth. Let's not repeat the mistake Patrick Kilpatrick made in the Scooter Libby case when he did not require VP Cheny to take an oath prior to providing his testimony. Had he done so, the people might have gotten a better idea of what was really taking place in the White House; that is, the people's House on loan to the present tenants. No branch of government and its employees should give testimony to Congress during an investigation unless it is under oath. This is not partisanship . . . it is just common sense; especially if the truth is to be the ultimate end product. Like a scientists, one must hold something constant (e.g., testimony under oath) while we explore the other variables. Do not doubt that citizens (whatever their political leanings) want, deserve and are anxious for the truth. It reassures us all that our democracy is intact and that there is truly a "balance of power" and confirms that 'no one' regardless of how high and powerful one becomes is above the law. Thank you for your service at this critical juncture in U.S. history. Our founders are depending on honorable men and women to reassert the people's right to know what their representatives are doing in their name. Respectfully submitted, /s/ Shirley Gee Just another patriotic American fighting for our Founding Fathers’ ideals (anyone who expresses a concern for our government and its activities is one) 3/20/07
(MY computer sent the message early before it was completed). What we saw on TV last night talking about dismissed prosecutors is the REAL George Bush. Not Barbacue George, the PR creation that folks say they want to have over for a beer. No, this was the Real Bush. Definitely Barbara Bush's son. My way or the highway. No more foolish talk about being a uniter. If he were a uniter, he would have never taken on 51% and the hell with the rest of the electorate Karl Rove. Of course, the dismissals were about politics. Everything about George is about politics. He never even started to govern. It has been nothing but eight years of politics. The war is about politics. He is helping his base, the rich. This evangelical stuff and social issues is all election nonsense. What does George Bush really care about the unborn? He doesn't care about the born unless they are in the Social Register. George is no leader. I doubt all the Democrat Party (as he insists on disrepectfully calling them) are into trench warfare. Some of the Congress would at least try at bi-partisanship. When you run a lousy administration with second-rate people, you get held accountable. There are people in Texas with brains. George hasn't found them. Loyalty above all else breeds mediocrity and yes sir-ism. Isn't that too bad. That is how private industry was supposed to work? Remember. The MBA president who could make things run efficiently. Iraq, Katrina, deficit, veteran care, broken borders, Middle East peacee going no where. It isn't that Georgee is stupid. He doesn't care. In fact, he really doesn't give a damn. As long as the upper crust is getting richer and as long as his circle of friends is doing well, he doesn't care. I think we have had plenty enough of his concept of compassion. Can we please move up the date of the election? I doubt even Barney respects him at this point. What a Lonely Man with friends like Karl Rove and Al Gonzales. Please, George, don't go back to Mount Vernon and try to compare yourself to George Washington or Teddy Roosevelt. They were not chicken hawks and they didn't try to duck Congress. Washington put up with a lot of nonsense from Congress, which Hamilton referred to as a bunch of cows, BECAUSE he truly believed in democracy, representative Government and desperately did not want One Man Rule. Someone better tell George Bush that he is not King, quite yet.
Yesterday (3/20) Chris Matthews said that no President would allow his advisers testify publicly under oath before Congress. He stated there was no way that Clinton would let his political advisors appear under oath. Presidential advisers, including 47 from the Clinton administration alone, have frequently testified before Congressional committees. George Stephanopoulos (when he was Clinton's equivalent of Karl Rove) was one of the 47.
It is like everything else this administration have said and have done since they been in office. Lied to the American people, I think the democrat should continue to fight for the oversight, becuase the the republican congress didn't do nothing while they were in control. The American people did pay a price for six years. Why should the American people paid a attention to Bush and Cheney when they didn't pay attention to the American people. I think this is good, now they are getting there own medicine. The Bush and Cheney were laughing at the people that voted for them in 2004, because basically they wanted to continue the fools games with us. The American people should not feel sorry for them or support them because they caused the mess they are in now. Wake up Americans (don't be fooled no more, think about all the families that lost someone in this terrible war, and they are struggling to survive).
