Would the day Roe v. Wade is repealed be a good day for America?

Posted: Thursday, May 03, 2007 9:06 PM by Hardball

(By MSNBC's Tucker Carlson)

Would the day Roe v. Wade is repealed be a good day for America? It’s a simple enough question, and all the candidates responded to it simply. Nine of them agreed it would be a good day. Giuliani’s response: “It’d be OK.”

So the repeal of the single most controversial Supreme Court decision of the last 30 years is no big deal one way or another? You can support Roe or oppose it, but indifference is an odd response, especially for a presidential candidate.

Another weird moment: Giuliani is asked if the increased influence of evangelicals is a good thing for the Republican Party. His answer: “The increased influence of large groups of people is always good.” Notice the immediate shift from the specific (evangelicals) to the general (“large groups of people.”) That’s always a sure sign of a dodge, and in this case there was no reason for it. This isn’t New York City. It’s the Republican primary. In a Republican primary, evangelicals aren’t considered scary. They’re good. More than that, they’re politically necessary. There’s no reason not to say nice things about them in public. Why can’t Giuliani do it?

A bunch of anti-abortionists with no adopted kids what hypocrites. I am pro-choice and have adopted kids go figure.
It just goes to show that Guiliani cannot be trusted on certain issues. He is many times too vague or not direct in his responses. Speaking of Evangelicals...I read that altho a lot of different religious leaders like Mitt Romney, many Evangelicals are very negative toward him because Mitt is LDS. Religion should not be an issue when choosing a candidate for Pres...as stated in the Constitution. Interestingly, there is a great website...evangelicalsformitt.com...check it out!
Guiliani is pro-choice & doesn't want to piss off his base. He needs to be honest with America and say "Hey I'm a fiscally conservative Democrat".
Certain so-called Journalists continue to bash Hillary Clinton endlessly among them Tucker Carlson and Chris Mathews - Don Imus was fired for his sexist remarks and he didn`t pretend to be a Journalist. I consider Hillary Clinton a highly intelligent and capable person and these remarks are so mean and viscious, it is just a shame. Mary from Kentucky
Is it just me or is Rudy killing his campaign because of his social positions. There is no way he can win with his uber-liberal social positions. At the same time, he cannot appear to be a flip-flopper like Romney.
Just to fill everyone in, Roe v. Wade was effectively overruled in 1992 by Planned Parenthood v. Casey. Casey still recognized abortion but it removed its status as a "fundamental" right that Roe had created.
After watching these brilliant candidates, I've changed my mind on Roe v Wade... I agree with them, that all abortions should be illegal. Pregnant women should be forced to have their babies... and the fathers should be forced to raise them. I know it's a bit Draconian, but these guys are about being responsible for your actions...so let's ALL be responsible; even the daddies.
Tucker, I appreciate leaders who can express more than elementary yes and no answers. We are brighter than you give us credit for. I thought that Rudy Giuliani did NOT equivocate; but rather gave a well thought out, clear answer on the issue of abortion. And, by the way, I am not waiting for Hillary Clinton to apologize; again I can understand her perfectly clear answer. Stop trying to make issues where there are none and get on with problems that really need some thoughtful solutions. The he said/ she said ya da ya da is sooooo boring. Sherri Lewiston, Idaho
I beleive the day Roe V. Wade is overturned will be THE GREATEST DAY IN OUR AMERICAN HISTORY.it would be a day good willed people would have turned our society away from its darkest time that we are in now. ABORTION is the dividing line of our country. It is the issue that will decide our next president. It will decide the future of our nation and society.Abortion now shows our society that we dont value the human life inside the mothers womb.Roe v Wade took the rights away from the child and the father too protect that child.IT CREATED A FATHERLESS GENERATION.The most dangerous place in our society is in the mothers womb. 1 OUT OF 4 BABIES ARE ABORTED . WELL OVER 40 million SINCE ROE V WADE their innocent blood polutes our land There is a holocost going on now CAN YOU SEE IT???? THEIR INNOCENT BLOOD CRYS FOR VENGENCE WHO WILL BE THEIR VOICE
