Not ready for prime time

Posted: Thursday, May 03, 2007 9:20 PM by Hardball

(From NBC's Chuck Todd)

Four guys seemed ready for this debate, the other six were, well, not ready for prime time. The "ready" candidates on this stage tonight: McCain, Hunter, Romney and Huckabee.

The other six... shaky at best.

Not Gilmore? Hunter seems a little tempermental to me. Something about him is not right and McCain isn't answering the questions he just saying his rehearsed lines.
I just wish I could hear old Rudy say what he did in New York, or McCain rehash his past. Both of thes guys are business as usual types...Oh Rudy might pick up another girl friend or wife. I like Ron Paul the best. He's honest and he KNOWS THE CONSTITUTION backwards and forwards. Next to him Tancredo is good too. Both of them show something lacking in our nation. They both have a pair. They aren't hedging or tippy toeing around anything. They stand up on their hind legs, walk and talk like men. Wouldn't that be a change in Washington?
I'm not a Republican and I don't want another one in the White House. They are killing the middle class. However, this debate was much more exciting than the Dem debate, largely due to Chris Matthews. Good job! Good format! Thanks!

Please identify each candidate as they are speaking. Governor Romney, Are you aware of the extent of identity theft this year regarding Federal tax returns. Ask the victims their opinion of a Federal ID.
I agree with Steve. McCain has seemed a little pre-programmed tonight. The answers have been fine, but they seem stiff and rehearsed. He is obviously trying to convey seriousness.
Mr. Todd, aren't you and the rest of the Hardbloggers sleeping on Ron Paul? MSNBC Polls have Ron Paul, with Mitt Romney, as the major winners of the debate!!! How shakey could he have been with the few questions he got, as well as with the polls favoring him?
Matthews is sure to discuss this polling on the show tonight. Should be interesting.
The defining moment in this debate came (at least for me) when the candidates were collectively asked whether any of them DO NOT BELIEVE IN EVOLUTION. Several looked as if they were unsure how to respond. John McCain hedged his bet by answering he does believe in evolution, though God had a hand in creation too. But three hands were immediately raised: Brownback, Huckabee, and Timcredo. I found this quite alarming and was, all at once, totally ashamed of what the GOP has become: a party of dogmatic religious nut-jobs intent on turning America into a theocracy. The more moderate-Conservative party of Ronald Reagan appears to be dead and there are no current Reagan-like contenders for the White House. The Dems are looking better and better to me, even though I am a life-long Republican.
I think Tom Tancredo was the strongest. I like when asked about the corruption in the republican party he choose to blame the individuals.
I am a lifelong Independent, As far as the Republicans a re concerned< I must admit that I like Ron Paul because as stated he is the only one I see standing up for the Constitution of this country...as for the Democrats I have to say Dennis Kucinich...and for the very same reason. Wouldn't it be nice to see the two of them run as running mates?....Wow ...what a concept....both parties working together....for the good of the country....instead of partisan politics....for the good of thier wallets.....
