Chris Matthews for senator?

Posted: Tuesday, April 15, 2008 9:41 AM by Sam Go

Did you miss Chris Matthews' guest appearance on Comedy Central's "Colbert Report" last night?

Colbert grilled Matthews on whether or not he hopes to run for senator in 2010.

For his part, Matthews only said, "Some people growing up, some kids want to be a fireman. I want to be a senator."

If I lived in Pennsylvania, I would vote for Chris.
My only problem is this:  WHY DOES HE PLAY SOFTBALL WITH SENATOR MCCAIN?
Why doesn't he ask him how he plans to sustain US military presence in Iraq, Afghanistan, and well as bombing Iraq WITHOUT A DRAFT???????
WHY WON'T HE ASK THE HARD QUESTIONS????????????????
Chris always gives McCain a free pass, and I am sooooooooooooo disappointed in him.
Chris - PLEASE, run for senate.  I'm a Pennsylvania resident and a Republican, I would run to the polls to vote for you.  Specter has had a nice run, but it’s time for him to retire, either on his own or by the will of the voters.  Besides, if I have to choose between Hoeffel or Specter again, I’m going to have to vote Specter and I’d rather not.
I saw the broadcast, and if Chris Matthews is not seriously considering running for Arlen Specter's Senate seat, he deserves an academy award.  I thought he was tearing up there for a minute.  The great state of Pennsylvania sure deserves to have someone run who can take a suggestion like that so seriously on air.

But on another issue, during the interview, Chris Matthews mentioned *again* that Obama should pay street money and reassure Pennsylvania voters that they're "not bitter".  What I want to know is, when you live in Allentown or Scranton, how can you look at the way your town has bottomed out in the last 20 years and NOT be bitter?  I live in a town with more abandoned buildings than I care to count, where the best thing the local government has done is start a program to actually demolish the things.  Confetti starts flying if an employer comes to town that will employ 50 or 100 people, but so many tax givaways have to be given by the city to woo new businesses that the tax base after new development is no better than before.  Our population is shrinking, our schools are suffering, and we are being taxed out of our minds.  Bitter?  You bet.  Does that make it a real stretch to even consider a 'hopeful' message from a candidate.  Yep.  So, I completely get where Obama was coming from.

As for the voters in Pennsylvania (where both my Mom's and Dad's family is from), they need to make sure they don't add "close-minded" and "thin-skinned" to the list of words used to describe them.  Admit it -- if you're like me and my family, you're frustrated to the point where you have almost NO expectations from government.  Everyone I talk to is cynical and skeptical and, well, in some cases bitter.  The challenge is to step out of that mindset and allow yourself to believe.  It's a tough thing to get over the inner fear that you will be disappointed AGAIN.  I tell you, I'm working on it myself.

If I were Chris Matthews, I wouldn't get so hung up on one man using a word that might damage my tender image of myself.  I would be hopping mad that there is a serious candidate out there who is openly lying to get elected.  Isn't that MORE condescending to small town America -- to think we're not smart enough to recognize or care when we're being lied to??
Mr. Matthews. If you make Senator, what would be your posistion on PATERNITY FRAUD?

William H. Cain
We need you in the Senate Chris.  You will keep the language, the debate and the focus on doing what's right for the country.

I missed your show yesterday.  I am waiting for someone in the media to point out that Hillary Clinton's spoon feeding to Pennsylvanians how they should interpret Obama's remarks, even after if he clarified them, can be interpreted as condescending and insulting to them.  Why does she always feel the need to tell voters how they are supposed to think like she's the smartest person on the planet and we are all in need of her constant guidance. .
Yea, Chris, go for it!  I like your show and I'm glad you don't bite your tongue, and you aren't mean-spirited like the Fox team.  Be who you are!
If Chris always wanted to be Senator, why didn't he go into elected politics?  It's the rare celebrity who manages to turn that into an instant seat in the Senate, a Governorship or the Presidency, never having served at any level of government before.  And he's never been married to Bill Clinton, either.

I'd advise him to stick to his day job or at least start with a house seat.  He's not exactly on a par, celebrity-wise, with Ronnie or Arnold and it's not looking good for Al Franken.
Run Chris. Run.

I think you'd be a great Senator.  You definitely know the workings of the legislative branch of the government, having worked as a Senate aide and an aide to the great Tip O'Neil.

Can you imagine a resounding "HA!" echoing through the Senate chamber?

Until then, I'll continue to watch Hardball every day.
Mr. Matthews, if you were to run for and win a U.S. Senate seat that would be fantastic but then again you would not be able to hold politicians accountable on Hardball anymore! I think people would miss your evenhanded journalism which is so refreshing compared to the dogmatic and an ego driven view of most show hosts (i.e. Bill O'Reilly).

If you do indeed run, can I work for your campaign???
Thanks Chris for your interview iwth John McCain. I now a lot more about Barack Obama.  Hardball?  More like T-Ball.
I can see it now, the "Matthews/Biden" bill.  Cmon Chris you have to admit that has a nice ring to it
With my previous message I had sent some questions to ask John McCain. I was pretty disappointed about the soft and easy questions the Senator was asked. On his stand on torture; John McCain has always opposed torture, but as the vote on a ban of waterboarding came up in the Senate last February, Senator McCain flip-flopped and voted against a ban on waterboarding, which is in his own words 'torture'. Chris, why didn't you call him on that?
After watching the College Tour with Sen. McCain and again came away with Chris Matthew's pro-Hillary stance.  Calling Obama elitist about his comment.  Funny how he did pay any attention to the whole statement like people being fed up the the government over 2 Administration ignoring their problems with jobs and wages.  Too bad Chris pass that up.

He also didn't hit Sen. McCain with the Hardball question on why the Senator says Obama pledged to take public funding when he did not.  I've seen the statement online and read it on my TV screen.  Heard other reporters actually report the truth that Obama would have talks with McCain on public funding.  Come on, Chris.

Getting tired on how Chris is playing favorites again.  Too bad!
