Looking ahead to the November elections

Posted: Wednesday, August 06, 2008 3:24 PM by Hardball

With the days beginning to dwindle down before the November presidential election and the Democratic National Convention set to kick off on Monday, August 25, msnbc.com has released the Decision '08 Dashboard, a newly designed politics site, featuring election tools and interactives.

On the site, audiences have the chance to view electoral maps, participate in live votes and discussions via Newsvine and watch videos from the extensive NBC News political coverage.

The site also features a column by NBC Political Director Chuck Todd offering his analysis on the latest political stories as well as an archive of all the NBC News/WSJ polls.

Check out the new site and get involved in the spirit of the election season!

There are rumours circulating that John McCain was not under the Rick Warren "cone of silence" for a substantial portion of Rick Warren's interview with Barack Obama.
If this is confirmed, it makes Rick either an amateur, or worse, and voters like you and me, suckers.
I cannot understand how Palin is getting away with what Hillary could not.  I don't understand why Hillary hasn't come out guns blazing.  She was told to toughen up if you want to play with the big boys and be part of this election process.  She was scrutinized on her record, family and looks and showed an enormous amount of strength and integrity.  Why should Palin not have to do the same?  Why should she be treated differently?  It's appalling.  If she is indeed a moose hunting, hockey, tough Alaskan woman then suck it up and rather than attacking your opponent and the media, tell us why you should be VP and what you will do for the country.  Enough of this ridiculousness.
This election is just making me sick. Thr right wing continues to swift boat people. I would for once like to see them talk about issues. They are now demanding an appology for the lipstick on a pig comment that John McCain used himself. America do the republicans really think we are that blinded. I beg america please step up to the plate and hit one out of the park. Lets reform our goverment starting today and tell the politicians enough is enough. We have too many problems that need to be fixed to continue listening to the PRESIDENTAL HOPEFULLS argue about PIGS
Lipstick on both Obama's and Biden's collar?  Yes and I think everyone is missing the point. I don't know if Obama's PIG comment was directed toward Palin and no one will ever know. Now, today he not only repeats the comment and but also his running mate, Biden, makes another lipstick comment.  I do know that we should question why an intelligent, presidential candidate along with his potential VP would not just apologize and say it was a poor choice of words. Think.  What if he uses the wrong choice of words when talking with Putin and other world leaders. What would the results be?  This just shows they are not ready for prime time.  They are just too glib and don't know how to say simple things like I'm sorry or I was wrong.
Chris OMG please these people are taking this and blowing this "lipstick on a pig" thing out of proportion. If the republican party thinks that Obama is talking about Mrs. Palin then they must think that she is a pig. I'm 22 yrs old and i think think that John McCain is being immature and manipulative
I am a 58 year old Republican for many years, voted for George Bush in 2000 and 2004 and Regan and Bush 41.

I am soooo disappointed in John McCain.  I always thought him to be a man of character and integrity and he is turning his campaign into "politics as usual".

There is certainly so many important issues to talk about than lipstick on a pig.  This big deal should be viewed as a pathetic "polictial" trick to get the focus off the issues and try to bring everyone down to the gutter with them (Republicans).  They do this every year and in the past it has worked.

I hope the American people are going to see this for what it is.

Gov. Palin has put herself out there as the Vice Presidential running mate of John McCain.  It is inconceivable that any comments about Sarah Palin unless they are words of praise, are considered to be sexist and personal attacks.  The McCain campaign is using the media to stop all from asking the tough questions and taking about the all important issues.

Politics by John McCain have now gone as low as you can go.

What happen to the old John McCain....The only reason he has taken up the mantle for "REFORM" is because 'CHANGE" was working for Sen. Obama.

John McCain has never been interested in "Change" or "Reform until the last two weeks.

I'm really sick of this style of politics. I wans not a John Kerry supporter, but they did it to him too.   It make be ashamed of my political party.

The Republicans won't talk about the last 8 years because it is a record that one would want to forget.  Unfortunately, for those who thought McCain/Palin was different than Bush/Cheney. GUESS AGAIN......

I am truly saddened by this latest attack and twisting of words.

Until the American People stand up and say "Enough is Enough"  this will continue.
Thank you for your commentary today.  I have listened with sadness to the imbecility of the coverage of McCain's latest attempt to distract the campaigns from the serious issues that face our nation.  Only time will tell if we are becoming a nation of idiots.
Thanks Chris for getting straight on this whole lipstick joke! Let's strip the cosmetics out of the equation and get down to the business of saving our country. My kids are proud of you Chris, regardless of your political views, this thing has gone to far away from what matters.
Thank God for Chris Mathews
After watching the shows today about lipstick and sex ed for kids I was physcally ill.
After watching Chris I again have faith in the news media
Good job Christ! My faimly enjoyed last night's show!
Especially when you showed the book 'Lipstick on the pig' that was pretty cool!

Thank you for the Windex that we need to see clearly past what the republicans are using to smear the windshield of America!
I remember when America was RED, WHITE, and BLUE...now it's divided into RED and BLUE.
