He is very experienced with his years in service. He speaks from the heart, and he knows the hopes and aspirations of a great deal of Americans and he knows the anguish of personal loss and family tragedy.
His proposal to partition Iraq is sound albeit contoversial. He has bee right on the war in many instances and speaks forcefully to that end.
But he remains the bottom echelons of the list when it comes to fund raising, which begs the question even Chris has asked, is it the money?
Biden remains commited, dedicated and driven to see the convention floor, win lose or draw, the debaye is yet another shot to stay in the hunt.

Matthews: What I'll be looking for at the debates

Joan F. I would like to ask the candidates who voted to give President Bush the authority to invade Iraq to justify their trust in him. Half of the American people were insightful enough to know the war in Iraq was ill-conceived, and many democrats (myself included) expect a leader with at least as much insight as most of the citizens. Without saying "knowing then what I know now..." or "we were misled into war by an incompetent president..." or "the administration cherry-picked the intelegence..." (we've already heard all of that rhetoric) please justify your vote which helped allow this to happen. The democrats who voted for this war are as much to blame as the republicans who have executed this fiasco. I suppose this question would be directed to Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, and Joe Biden.

Matthews: What I'll be looking for at the debates

Questions for candidates: Would President Bush's proposed "war czar" office be authorized because of the emergency powers allowed by the Constitution during wartime? 1) in light of recent comments by individuals in the public eye (Michael Richards, Don Imus) as the catalyst(s) for public discussion, how do you feel about the current state of race relations in this country and do you feel a necessity for reviving the panel on race relations initiated by fmr. pres. Clinton,or how else would you propose to continue to move us forward.

2)Recognizing that gun control/freedom via the 2nd amendment remains a hot button issue for many Americans, especially in light of the recent tragedy at Virginia Tech, why is that many Democrats have backed off of it as political issue to pursue? If not by gun control per se, and this may be the bigger issue, then what do you think can be done to change the tide of gun-related violence in this country that is so pervasive, per capita, compared to other major industrialized nations?

3) What do you propose to truly make college more affordable for lower and middle income Americans without having to stake their futures to tremendous loans that are an immediate burden before their careers have even begun?

Matthews: What I'll be looking for at the debates

As president, what substantial, significant, and indiscriminant measures would you take to restore and augment our country's rapport throughout the international community. It is will know that African Americans and lower middle class Anglo-Saxon as well as many minorities believed former President Bill Clinton to be the people’s president. What do you feel the national priorities are?
How far are you willing to go to resolve these issues to fulfill them? Substance, please, not rhetoric.
Will you get us out of Iraq with honor? Unlike Vietnam, helicopters evacuating the grateful few as the enemy is converging on diplomatic territory, should not be repeated! Too few actually remember our disgrace in VietNam and equate the present situation accordingly. There are no similiarities between the Vietnam and Iraq conflicts other than our government got us into the situation with no clear cut exit strategy. We did not belong in Vietnam and we do not belong in Iraq. Plain and simple. Terrorism was an issue then, North Korea, China and the North Vietnamese, and it is still an issue now. Make damn sure they can't get into our country and assist other countries in their fight against terror. Can you do this with the assistance of the other political party,in other words eliminate bipartisanship, and strive to get other world leaders involved in the struggle? Someone with a "vision" and tactfulness can, is it you?
It's imperative that we pull this country back together again or nothing will be resolved. In the debates, I will be looking, and voting for the candidate that can resolve this countries "them against us" attitude. We will never get anywhere from here!

How would this be done without raising taxes extremely high? Why would anyone want a plan as they do in Canada or England, where their citizens come to the US to get medical procedures done they can't get done at home? Under Universal Care, one would have to wait months to get procedures done, where now they can get medical procedures done almost immediately.

It is unfortunate that medical procedures do cost as much as they do, but if our country wants the best health care in the world, it takes money. Someone has to pay. Nothing is free. This just seems like another welfare program to buy votes.

Americans should be ashamed of themselves when they no longer want to take care of themselves, but leave all life decisions to the Imperial Federal Government. This is giving away your freedom, your right to live and choose as one sees fit.

That's part of being an American. America's door has always been opened to those who believe in what she stands for. But some americans have forgotten what the word "illegal" means when it comes to immigration. To continue immigration as it is will be irresponsible to this country's foundational principles of knowing the difference between right & wrong. Security for America's future and the War on Terror are very important aspects, but let's all be honest with ourselves. Terrorism is never going to completely go away no matter how much money and resources are spent on it. The war on drugs is much more worth taxpayer dollars because at least drugs have a chance of getting off our streets. I want and expect the democratic candidates to talk about the "pocketbook issues" of our country again. I want to know as a middle-class citizen why according to a new poll the top 1% of our country is earning 22% of the total national income which hasn't happened since the Depression in 1929. I want to know why there's a widening gap between rich and poor, why our hard earned taxpayer dollars and a depleted Treasury are going to fund a lousy Iraq War and why gas and energy are getting outrageous while I see no real increase in my wage. I also want to hear why its getting so expensive to send kids to college, afford healthcare, why free trade has crippled our economy with lost jobs and why more money isn't being spent on alternative energy since Exxon and BP are making record profits. They could turn the country's energy use away from oil so fast because the money is there, but that would be bad for the oil profiteers. I know that there's 30 million people in Iraq that need a democracy, but there's also 30 million poor citizens in this country that need help which Katrina exposed and no one is talking about. The priorities of this Administation are pretty messed up.

Matthews: What I'll be looking for at the debates

In consideration of a U.S. withdraw from Iraq, what strategies would you enact to preserve the dignity of both the U.S. and Iraqi governments and the people of both countries?

Matthews: What I'll be looking for at the debates

a debate managed by chris matthews will not be anything but a popularity contest (remember high school). matthews love hillary and obama and hates any republican. his demeanor, the inference and slant of even seemingly direct simple questions will support a left wing bias and agenda. so i ask you, why don't you forgo this farce and get it down to a two man debate (or man/woman) no holds barred like (incoln/douglas). i don't need or want to hear from the pretenders with no chance getting elected.

Matthews: What I'll be looking for at the debates

What is the position of each candidate with regards to supporting the current Immigration Laws and how the lack of enforcement is allowing 10,000 (estimated)daily illegal border crossings. No wonder the job is such hard work!

Matthews: What I'll be looking for at the debates

My question would be threefold: Is corporate cronynism avoidable, why can we spend billions in Iraq and still NOT have healthcare in the US, blood for oil, Viggo Mortensen was right...when can we have green oilfree energy?

Matthews: What I'll be looking for at the debates

I will be waiting for the post coverage on MSNBC to see what Matthews has to say about Hillary Clinton. To me the United States has to be about reacting to genuine occurrences and not to perceived threats.

Is there any democratic candidate that would support a doctrine that simply says that the United States will not attack in force any nation that has not attacked us first - or - nation that first attacks one of allies requesting our help?

America is the greatest nation in the world. America can take a few punches. If any country is stupid enough to attack us first we will have across the board support to retaliate. It should be fundamentally “Un-American” to for the Untied States to initiate war.
