It was dramatic, confrontational, and the newest chapter in a bitter political feud that began four years ago.

Coulter's disgracful actions are no longer accepted by a majority of Americans - so much so that we dig in our pockets to support someone or a group she attacks. Overwhelming support branched out for the gay community after continual attacks from Coulter - and now the same has happened for the Edwards campaign. When will Ann learn?

Both Coulter and Edwards win by fighting

Why should we care what Bill Maher, Ann Coulter or any of a number of these people think? Ann said what she did to sell books, Elizabeth Edwards did what she did to draw more attention to a floundering political campaign, who really cares about either??

Both Coulter and Edwards win by fighting

Watching that clip of Ms Coulter made me think of the famous exchange between Joseph Welch and Senator McCarthy:

"Until this moment, Senator, I think I never gauged your cruelty or recklessness...."

Followed by

"Let us not assassinate this lad further, Senator.... The difference, 53 years later, is that in 1954 the American people were sickened by this kind of behavior, whereas now it passes for a form of entertainment. It would appear that in providing a forum for unconscionable behavior, Hardball is to political discourse what the WWE is to real sports.

Both Coulter and Edwards win by fighting

R. Her language may not be appropriate for a polical candidate, but the voters would determine that, right?

Second, Ms. Coulter's "hateful" speech could easily be countered with reasoned responses. However, the Edwards' have none and utilize a bait-and-switch tactic to change completely the topic of debate.

Third, I think it's human nature to become more vitriolic in speech when the other party is disengenuous, overly ambitious or just plain stupid. I think Ms. Coulter could be more convincing without her "hurtful" speech, but then we all can't be Ronald Reagan, can we?

Finally, for those who think that parties always have to work together, get real. There comes a time when values and principles cannot be compromised. That's where the intelligent individual actually listens to what is actually being said, filters out the rhetoric, and aligns himself with one or the other.
Both Coulter and Edwards win by fighting

Ann Coulter appears to be a shallow minded person. She has no intellectual subject to say so she resorts to disgraceful comments to gain attention. This is so sickening...I would hope that Americans are smarter than what Ann portrays them to be. People should not support this kind of behavior. I applaud Elizabeth Edwards for speaking up. She sets a good example to all of us. Like most bullies, she avoided the request before her, trying to turn the issue around in her favor, while not really approaching the topic at hand. Edwards asked 'stop the personal attacks' and Couter replied with rhetoric about the Edwards' fundraising tactics.

While one could argure that there is some ethical issues with the Edwards' fundraising tactics, it's not that much different from Couter using such publicity to sell books?

Edwards' had the ball in her court at that moment, and could have retorted by calling Couter a hypocrite, and challenged her intentions for the various 'personal attacks'. But in the long run, Edwards' 'kill them with kindness' strategy was successful, as I feel she came out as the better person in this conflict.

To sum up...though I agree with Couter's ideology, I don't agree with her strategy. In contrast, I don't agree with Edwards' ideology, but her strategy was appropriate and well timed - it's the age-old conflict between the big-city activist and the true southern belle. In this case, the south wins.

Both Coulter and Edwards win by fighting

Until the REPUBLICANS call Ann on her behavior, we're left to assume that her comments are what they, the so-called "moral majority", are REALLY thinking. She sat in front of the camera on "Hardball" with a big smirk on her face, which indicated to me she got exactly what she wanted. And what's with the hair-swinging? Was she flirting with someone? In my opinion, Coulter needs to find a REAL job instead of making her money at other people's expenses (sound familiar??).

Both Coulter and Edwards win by fighting

I argue that Ann is actually a liberal. What better way to get support for a group than to stand venomosly against it. The hate speach she generates makes these groups appear as victims and everyone wants to help those that are victimized. Ann is a true savant at using the system and the literal and linear thinking of most staunch conservatives to help exectute her liberal agenda.

Both Coulter and Edwards win by fighting

Ann Coultere calls it as she sees it. She is not interested in being "politically correct". She was right on the money about the vultures who benefitted from their loved ones's deaths at ground zero and she is right on about Edwards being a big phoney. Every time we have a huge catastrophe the relatives parade and demand retribution and money. The government is NOT responsible for compensating victims!!! They thought they were better and more important than any other person that has lost a loved one wrongly. Zillions of people lose loved ones and are not compensated a dime. I find it disgusting those relatives were compensated by our tax dollars. And John Edwards uses his son's death to get sympathy. Hurray for Ann Coulter for having a backbone.

Both Coulter and Edwards win by fighting

Shantelle B. I do believe in our right to free speech and she has demonstrated that along with all of you other great people. Whether you agree with Ms. Coulter or the Edwards campaign, isn't it great to see that people are exercising their right to speech? I hope that all you fine people will follow up on your beliefs when it comes time for election.

Both Coulter and Edwards win by fighting

Ann Coulter is no better than Howard Stern. She is loud, obnoxious and offensive and is getting exactly what she wants, all attention on her. We have a mess in the White House and the importance of this upcoming election has been reduced to personal attacks as well as the personal opinions of an idiot. Ms. Coulter, if you truly have all the answers as you claim to, why not run for office yourself? Yes, I agree with you, you lack the class, confidence, intelligence and spiritual awarness to win.
